14-Oct-05 11:00 AM CST New Houston Symphony Recording ReleasedHouston, Texas, October 14, 2005 – Koch International Classics has released the first commercially available recording of Hans Graf and the Houston Symphony. The CD was recorded during two live performances in September 2004 and features two musical ventures into the world of fairy tales. Stravinsky’s Divertimento from Le Baiser de la fée (The Fairy’s Kiss) is taken from a full ballet score, a retelling of Hans Christian Anderson’s fairy tale, “The Ice Maiden.” It was recorded during the Opening Night concert on September 10, 2004. The major work on the recording is the full ballet score of Bartók’s The Wooden Prince. The highly descriptive score features seven major dances, including the Dance of the Trees and the Dance of the Waves. It was recorded during live performances on September 18-20, 2004. Matthew VanBesien, Houston Symphony Executive Director/CEO, said, “We have done a couple of private recordings since Hans joined us, but now, we have a wonderful example of his and the orchestra’s music making that is available to the general public. Both concerts where these recordings were made were critically praised and enthusiastically received by our audiences. Now everyone can enjoy the power of these performances, and gain a real appreciation for how Maestro Graf creates stimulating and interesting programs.”
