Win 2 Orchestra Seats to Houston Ballet's Three Classics, Five Tangos

Three Classics, Five Tangos: Three prolific and internationally acclaimed choreographers present their own interpretations of the classical idiom. Stanton Welch's Falling is danced by five couples to the music of Mozart. Canadian-born James Kudelka will employ his distinctive choreographic style to premiere Little Dancer, a new work specifically for company dancers. The piece will feature costumes by the Canadian designer Denis Lavoie. Completing the program is Hans van Manen's Five Tangos, a unique mix of the power and sensuality of tango and the cool abstraction of classical ballet.

All entries must be received by 5 p.m., May 19. Winner will be notified by May 20.

Valid only for performances:

May 22, 24, 30, 31 - 7:30 pm performance

May 25 and June 1 - 2 pm performance

Winner will be notified by e-mail and arrangements made to receive certificate. Certificate must be exchanged for tickets. Tickets must be redeemed for performance in person at either Houston Ballet Box Office in the Wortham Theater Center (550 Prairie) or Houston Ballet's Box Office (1916 W. Gray). Gift certificates must be redeemed at least one day prior to performance.

Founded in 1968, Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) is Houston’s acclaimed non-profit musical theatre company and is currently under the direction of President and CEO John C. Breckenridge. Dedicated to producing new works and classic masterpieces, the 2007-2008 "Dream of a Season" celebrates TUTS’ 40th Anniversary Season of bringing world-class musical theatre to Houston audiences.

TUTS was the first theatrical organization in Houston to perform free to the public in 1968 at Miller Outdoor Theatre in Hermann Park, and is the only Houston arts organization that has performed there free to the public every year since the building opened. Since its founding by Frank M. Young, TUTS has produced more than 300 musicals including many local, national and world premieres such as Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, as well as International tours including Debbie Reynolds in The Unsinkable Molly Brown, Juliet Prowse in Mame, Robert Goulet in Man of La Mancha, the Tony Award-winning revival of Carousel and the Deaf West Theatre production of Big River.

As a way to continue the tradition of musical theatre, TUTS’ Humphreys School of Musical Theatre provides instruction and stage experience for more than 1,700 students annually through both The Academy and The Studio, which allow students to flourish in a year-round schedule of classes. Housed in the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts, TUTS also annually presents the Tommy Tune Awards, honoring the best and brightest in Houston’s high school musical theatre programs.

Houston Downtown Alliance is a broad-based civic organization of individuals, businesses, arts and entertainment organizations, dedicated to promoting, advocating and participating in a vital and vibrant Downtown Houston.

In the summer of 2003, Downtown Houston Association and the Theater District Association joined forces to form the Houston Downtown Alliance, a new entity that operates several distinct programs promoting a vibrant Downtown Houston, include the Theater District, Emerging Leaders, and programs created for downtown workers and residents. The creation of the Houston Downtown Alliance, and the administration of programs with overlapping goals and audiences, was an innovative step to realize a stronger city core.

The new partnership, currently led by Andrew Huang, has made our organization even stronger and has provided us with more opportunities to serve and promote the residential and business communities of downtown.

By combining these two healthy, well-established organizations, we have a solid foundation from which to build and expand the programs that promote the downtown lifestyle including the arts, entertainment, residential living and working downtown.

What does this mean? A day-of-performance lottery for $25 best-available seats will be held daily for WICKED, which will be performing from October 26 through November 13, 2005 at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts.

Each day, 2½ hours prior to show time people who present themselves at the Hobby Center box office will have their names placed in a lottery drum and then thirty minutes later, names will be drawn for 28 best-available seats at $25 each, cash only. This lottery is available only in-person at the box office, with a limit of two tickets per person.

Enjoy a free, 20-minute, pre-concert lecture at Jones Hall beginning 50 minutes prior to each Classical Subscription performance. Music scholars and occasionally special guests from the performance give you insights and background about the concert to follow.
