Houston Ballet's Ben Stevenson Academy Presents Summer Intensive Showcase

Houston, Tx -- On Thursday, July 27 and Friday, July 28, Houston Ballet's Ben Stevenson Academy will present two public performances with over three hundred dancers from across the U.S. and abroad in the 2006 Summer Intensive Showcase at 8:00 p.m., Proscenium Theater, Marie Flickinger Fine Arts Building, San Jacinto Community College-South, 13735 Beamer Road, Houston. Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Tickets will be sold at the door. Seating is limited. For more information, call (713) 535-3210.

Each summer Houston Ballet’s Ben Stevenson Academy holds a special six-week Summer Intensive Program for the world’s best aspiring dancers from around the world. Faculty members hold auditions in sixteen cities and select intermediate and advanced level students to attend the Houston Ballet’s Ben Stevenson Summer Intensive Program. Students immerse themselves in the rigorous ballet program and take classes in all types of dance: modern, musical theater, drama, and jazz. Students attend lessons by Houston Ballet artistic staff members, academy instructors, and current Houston Ballet dancers, including principals Lauren Anderson and Barbara Bears who coach them in roles. Houston Ballet Artistic Director Stanton Welch directs classes on technique, as well as choreography and preparing the students for the end of session performance that showcases what they learned.

Houston Ballet’s Ben Stevenson Academy is the official school of Houston Ballet. The academy has become one of the nation’s premiere classical ballet training institutions, and has produced many professional ballet dancers. Over 40 % of Houston Ballet’s dancers trained at Houston Ballet’s Ben Stevenson Academy.

Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra to Make Much Anticipated Houston Debut

HOUSTON – Society for the Performing Arts (S.P.A.), bringing the worlds best to Houston, presents the world renowned Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, Sunday, March 12 at 2 p.m. in Jones Hall.
